Song of the Week

Week of March 28th
Mac Miller - "Child Celebrity"

This track was not included on Mac's EP he dropped this week, why we don't know but it's a dope track either way. Mac has always been a hard worker and in 2011 it's been no different, so far he's put out an EP, a mixtape and a bunch of singles. Expect big things from this cat not only this year but years to come. Below you can bang this track and there is also a few tracks worth mentioning for our last Song of the Week of March.
Mac Miller - "Child Celebrity"

Lupe Fiasco f. B.o.B - "Who Are You Now"

Hodgy Beats (of OFWGKTA) - "Mystery"

Warm Brew - "Willing To Ride"

Week of March 21st
B.o.B - "No Future"

There was a few dope tracks released this week but this Bobby Ray track defiantly took  it home. Did Odd Future wake a sleeping giant or what? On this OFWGKTA (or Odd Future) diss, B.o.B has never got down on a track like this before. Im sure you've all heard the story by now but if you haven't yet it goes something like this, Tyler, the Creator took a shot at B.o.B and as you can tell B.o.B took great offense and and went off. Listen I dig Odd Future and I like what their all about (especially Tyler) but but I also love diss tracks and if I were Tyler, the Creator I'd probably chill for a minute.
"No Future"

We also felt these two other tracks needed to mentioned as a part of our Song of the Week.

Eminem Ft. Martin L. Gore - "50 Ways"

Lil Wayne Ft. Rick Ross - "If I Die Today"

Week of March 14th
Big K.R.I.T. - "American Rapstar"

We've been banging this track at The Booth non stop since it leaked earlier this week. The thing about Big K.R.I.T. is not only does he produce all his own shit, he kills it lyrically. When he drops his album Return of 4Eva there's gonna be a lot of cats jumping on the band wagon, so start bumping some K.R.I.T. before he gets even bigger than he already is.

Week of March 7th

Lupe Fiasco Ft. MDMA - "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now"

We figured that since Lupe is one of our favorite emcees in the game today we'd pick one of our favorite tracks off his Lasers album. Every track on the album is dope so this choice ended up being a lot harder than we thought. Usually, not always, we're not huge fans of electronic beats and instrumentals but Lupe just kills it on this track, like he doesn't even get it a chance. From his lyrics to his flow this track has it all and so for the second week in March we decided to go with "I Don't Wanna Care Right Now" for our favorite track. Also check out some of tracks that just missed the cut in the playlist below.

Eminem Ft. Slaughterhouse & Yelawolf - "2.0 Boys"

We knew the instant this track dropped earlier this week it would be our Song of the Week. All these dudes are on a different level lyrically and you can see why Slim signed them all to Shady Records. Neither Slaughterhouse nor Yelawolf were on top of the game at the time but Em doesn’t see that, you can tell he looks at lyrical ability and in that case, there is not to many emcees better than this group. Usually when Em's on a track his verse sticks out but on this song every verse is so ridiculous.

Week of February 21st
Eminem Ft. B.o.B - "Things Get Worse"

This was an easy pick for our Song of the Week. The first time these two teamed up on "Airplanes Part 2" the track absolutely blew up, this time around they put together another banger while making it look easy. This track is one of the better songs we've heard in a while and cause of that we haven't stopped playing it over and over. You can tell this track was put together a while back, probably during the Relapse sessions, by Slim's strange and funny lyrics. Its a shame this track never made it on an album but luckily for us it still made it on the Internet. We all can only hope these two MC's will hook up again in the future to make more music.

Wiz Khalifa Ft. Trae Tha Truth & Big Sean - "Phone Numbers"

Again we had a bunch of choices for our Song of the Week but in the end we couldn't resist a track that featured Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean on it. Anyone else realize the last few Wiz tracks that have came out always have a title that will lead you into thinking what the track will be about, then after listening to it you realize its not? Well here's another one of those tracks and since this tape dropped yesterday we've been banging it over and over. Wiz, Sean and Trae all have different styles but all do it right and because of this you get our favorite track this week. We also put together a playlist of all the tracks that just missed the cut below, "Phone Numbers" is first so check it out and then let it play to the end.

Eminem - "Oh No"

So apparently this track was put together during the Relapse sessions but never made it on the album. Slim released this earlier today and by tonight it'll be everywhere online, hopefully you saw it first on The Booth. This track is so dope and we can only wonder why it never made it on any of his last few albums. Not often do we choose the same track for song and lyrics of the week, probably because very few tracks get us this fired up (and that's saying a lot because of all the new music we get to listen to daily). Listen and DL "Oh No" below.

Man we thought last week was tough to pick our track of the week (Here), where for the first time ever we picked two songs. But with all the new music that came out this week, last week does not even compare. So once again we're mixing up our Song of the Week a little bit so I hope you enjoy. We got our favorite track first then a bunch of honorable mentions listed under.

Week of January 31st

Jon Connor Ft. Elite - "Keep Your Head"

To some of you this choice may seem crazy, to the real hip hop fans you know where were coming from. Jon Connor once again murders this track, like doesn't even give the beat a chance. Even Elite brings his A game, I guess you have to when your on the same track as the self proclaimed "The Peoples Rapper". Dudes so legit so give this track a listen and keep in mind Jon Connor beat out the likes of some of best emcees around this week.

Below we got some bangers (in no particular order), that even though they are not our SOTW, they still needed to be posted.

Tyga Ft. Snoop Dogg & Game - "Really Raw"

Slaughterhouse - "Sun Doobie"

Money Making Jam Boys - "Day Job"

Wiz Khalifa Ft. Too $hort - "On My Level"

With all the new music that came out this week, we struggled to pick just one song so for the first time ever we're going to feature two tracks for our Song(s) of the Week.

Week of December 24th

Game Ft. KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane & Doug E. Fresh - "History"

For our first track of the week we had to go with "History" from Game's Purp & Patron mix tape. Since this tape came out we've been banging it nonstop all week. Not only is this song ridiculous the tape is in our running for Albums/MixTapes of the Month, which we'll be posting soon. We've been a fan of Game for a long time but also here at TBR we love our old school hip hop artists so when we saw that this track featured Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One and Doug E. Fresh we knew it was going to be an instant classic. Play and download the song and mix tape below.

Week of December 24th (Part 2)

Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul & Schoolboy Q - "Rolling Stone"

These four emcees together are know as Black Hippy, when you think about it its a strange name for four guys from L.A. but there all so legit. Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar are probably the most popular of the four but when all of them are together, their chemistry is nice. This track was included on Schoolboy Q's Setbacks mix tape which was originally on sale on itunes but just this week Q let put it out online for free. Black Hippy throws their lyrics over a classic rock song by The Zombies called "Time of the Season" mixed with their own west coast touch. Play and download the song and mix tape below.

Week of January 17th

Travis Barker, Game, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross & Swizz Beatz - "Can A Drummer Get Some"

We posted this track earlier this week and if you didn't get a chance to check it out give it a shot here. The hip hop fan in you will dig the lyrics from Game, Weezy and Rozay while the music fan in you will dig Barker's drums and the guitars roaring in the back round. This is the second single released from Barker's album Give The Drummer Some, (the other one "Jump Down" featured the new school group The Cool Kids) which is set to be released March this year. The album will be dope and this track is nice, check it out below.

Week of January 10th
Jay-Z & Kanye West - "H.A.M."

How could we not go with "H.A.M." for this weeks track. Over at The Booth we've been waiting for the first single to drop from Watch the Throne (If you don't count "That's My B*itch", which may or may not be on the album). These two emcees together just aren't fair for the rest of the game. Hov and Ye's lyrics sound perfect over another dope Lex Luger beat and as usual the chemistry is there and in full force. Listen to "H.A.M." and "That's My Bitch" below.

Week of January 3
Lil Wayne & Mary J. Blige featuring Diddy - "Someone To Love"
If you were hoping for some
legit new hip hop to begin
your new year, here you go.
You can thank Lil Wayne, The Queen of hip hop,anDiddy. The first songs of the year may be some of the hottest. This song packs some serious punch. It's gunna blow up, right? TBR says it will so check out the Booth Song of the Week, "Someone To Love".

Week of December 27th
Eminem - "Syllables"
Featuring Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Stat Quo, & Cashis

Eminem's newest release of singles certainly created a buzz this week in the hip hop world. "Syllables" has received some early praise from fellow emcees, including Talib Kweli. Kweli posted earlier in the week about the latest release from Shady camp on his twitter  saying "Eminems hook on Syllables- genius". It seems that Em and the rest of the leaders of the hip hop industry featured on this single have a lot to say about the way hip hop is made. The claim is that hip hop has become too much about making money and not enough about the quality of music, especially the lyrics. They certainly give you something to think about. Be sure to check out "Syllables".

Week of December 20th

Ghostface Killah - In Tha Park Ft. Black Thought

One of Wu-Tang's finest mixed with the voice behind The Roots makes for a dope track. In The Park can be found on Ghostface's "Apollo Kids" album that dropped last Tuesday. The lyrics are unreal and the theme behind the song is none other than old school hip hop.

Week of December 13th

Lil Wayne -
6'7"

Feat Cory Gunz

This one was a no brainer. Lil Wayne dominated the news in the hip hop world this week with the release of "6'7" featuring Cory Gunz. Weezy also dominate TBR this week taking down the "Song of the Week" honors  as well as "Lyric of the Week" honors.
