Albums/Mixtapes of the Month

Lupe Fiasco - Lasers
Release Date - March 8th

If you follow The Booth you would know how much we dig Lupe and you would have seen this coming. Ever since Lupe first starting making music he's been killing everything in his path since. We honestly didn't know what to expect from this album with all the crazy shit that went down between Lupe and Atlantic Records but in the end he still a dope album. This is Lupe's third album and first since 2007 and his second album that reached number one on the charts. Lasers actually stands for "Love Always Shines Everytime, Remember 2 Smile", and to get this message across Lupe made an online video titled "The L.A.S.E.R.S. Manifesto" which you can check out Here. This album was produced by some of the best in the biz like The Neptunes, The Audibles, Needlz, Alex Da Kidd, Syience and Lupe's long time friend and collaborator Soundtrakk. There's a lot of rumors going around lately stating that this would be Lupe's last album, not true because he's said recently he is half done with Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album. Secondly he's supposedly done at Altantic Records and there's a lot of talk saying he wants to be apart of Roc Nation, could you imagine Lupe working side by side with Jay-Z, so sick. If you want this album, and you should, you can buy it Here.

Travis Barker: Let The Drummer Get Wicked

Release Date: February 21st

Featured Emcees: Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Game, Rick Ross, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Royce Da 5'9'', Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T. & Tech N9ne

How many mixtapes have you ever seen with this type of quality emcees on it? And to top it off it was a free tape put together by Barker and DJ Whoo Kid through XXL. Barker was not messing around for his first ever mixtape and it will hold us all over until he releases his upcoming album Give The Drummer Some, which is basically the same concept as this tape. February was a great month for new music and this mixtape stole the lime light. One of the main reasons why we chose this tape as our February favorite is because of Barker's drum lines and choice of guitars on many of the tracks. This tape also has some serious producers that include the likes of Dr. Dre, Pharrel, Havoc (of Mobb Deep) along with Barker himself. We know there will be a lot of haters with this list but in all honesty any of these albums/mixtapes can go in any order because their all so dope. Listen and download this tape below.

Game - Purp & Patron

Release Date: January 24th

Featured Emcees: Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Pharrell, Fabolous, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Doug E. Fresh and Jim Jones.

After listening to this tape a few times through, there is really no reason why we wouldn't choose it for our favorite Album/Mixtape of the Month. The tape is so dope and if you follow TBR you would know this by all the singles we have posted from this tape over the past week or so (Here, Here or Here). Game just kills it from start to finish on this two disc mixtape, mixing up his flow and style many different times. This tape also contains some of the best emcees around from new to old school along with some all-star producers like Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Nottz, Cool and Dre, RZA, Travis Barker and Green Lantern just to name a few. The featured emcees and producers alone should have you more then fired up to grab this tape if you haven't already. Also a few days after Game dropped this tape he put out another dope mixtape titled The Hangover (Here), which was some leftover tracks from Purp & Patron, that's also worth a listen.
